    1. Separation Units

    Shale Shaker:
    The first stage of separation, where vibrating screens remove larger solids (typically above 100 Mikron) from the mud.
    Desander and Desilter:
    Hydrocyclones that further separate solids based on size, removing smaller particles (e.g., desander for particles above 50 Mikron, desilter for particles above 20 Mikron).
    Decanter Centrifuge:
    A more advanced separation method that uses centrifugal force to separate solids from the liquid, often used for finer solids and higher flow rates.

    2. Mud Transfer and Treatment:

    Pumps: Centrifugal pumps are used to transfer the mud through the system and to the drilling rig.
    Mixing Hopper: Used to add chemicals or adjust the properties of the drilling fluid.
    Chemical Treatment: Specific chemicals may be added to the mud to adjust its properties, remove contaminants, or enhance its performance.

    3. Storage and Filtration:

    Storage Tanks: Tanks are used to store the treated mud before it is reused.
    Filtration Units: May include filter presses or belt filters to further separate solids from the liquid phase.

    4. Key Applications:

    Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD):
    Mud recycling systems are crucial for HDD operations, where large volumes of drilling fluid are used and need to be efficiently recycled.

    These systems are also used in other trenchless construction methods, such as micro-tunnelling, to manage drilling fluids.
