XCMG Horizontal Directional Drilling Rigs Protect Ecological Resources

Recently, a XCMG XZ5060 horizontal directional drill (HDD) successfully completed a critical pullback operation during the construction of a DN711*1300m oil pipeline project in Liaoning Province. This pipeline project serves as a critical link between energy supply and consumption. Upon completion, it will significantly reduce crude oil transportation costs and significantly enhance energy transportation capacity in Liaoning Province and the entire Northeast region.

The wetland to be traversed during this construction project is not only a nature reserve but also an ecologically sensitive area. The high groundwater level, thick silt layer, and intersecting clay and sandstone layers with faults in some areas are prone to hole collapse and drill sticking, placing extremely high demands on the equipment and solution. Failure to achieve breakthrough on schedule would not only impact downstream energy allocation but also disrupt routine monitoring of the wetland ecological reserve.

After thoroughly evaluating the performance advantages of the XCMG XZ5060 HDD, the client decisively selected it for the project. During the crossing process, the XCMG technical team and the project owner innovatively implemented a “two-stage crossing” solution. Through scientific segmentation, optimized parameters, and reinforced retaining walls, this approach overcame construction obstacles while minimizing disturbance to the wetland ecosystem, providing a viable technical model for similar projects.

In terms of construction efficiency and quality control, the XCMG XZ5060 horizontal directional drill, with its powerful power output and intelligent collaborative control system, effectively coordinated with the construction team, completing the entire “three-in-one” process within 16 hours – seamlessly integrating steel pipe transportation, welding, non-destructive testing, and anti-corrosion spraying.

The XCMG XZ5060 is a large-tonnage horizontal directional drill independently developed by XCMG to meet customer needs. It features fast rotational speed, high torque, and strong push-pull force, with a maximum rotational torque of 16,000 N·m and a maximum push-pull force of 5,300 kN, making it suitable for large-diameter, long-distance drilling. It previously worked in conjunction with the XZ2860 to assist in the submarine laying of a natural gas pipeline, setting a record for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) of 2,940 meters in length and 80 meters in depth.

The successful completion of this pullback marks the final phase of the project. Upon completion, the project will play a significant role in ensuring regional energy supply security, significantly reducing transportation costs, and promoting green ecological concepts.
